Becca's first Blog

Social transformation newsletter
Well I hope you have all managed to find me! This is my venture into the new world of communication - my very own Blog! All feedback will be very welcome.
Saturday 16th October
I know! It is months away but the great news is that St Martin's Church on the Old Dean are going to join us this year. This is wonderful news as it will improve our relationship building in their community and allow the local church an opening into people's lives. St Martin's church members are hoping to join our housegroups in some of the activities - so do consider whether your housegroup would like to adopt!
St Vincent de Paul and BESOM are already planning lots of projects for you so do come forward and start to explore the options before the summer break!
The Day of Action coincides with the 'Ending Extreme Poverty' project headed up by Tish Mason. This year, on the 17th October, there will be a walk to the paupers grave at Brookwood Cemetary followed by some workshops based on Ending Poverty.
We are also keen to include as many of the youth from our church in the projects this year. Acacia (my 8 year old) came and visited the projects last year and was profoundly affected by what she saw. Children and young people have great hearts for Social justice so let's get them involved in 2010!
St Vincent de Paul have had the official opening of their warehouse - the Camberley Community Store- they will be sharing this space with BESOM and the Beacon. They are reporting an increase in the number of people coming to them hungry. So they are trying to build up their food stores, begun at Harvest Festival, but they also need to supply milk, butter and bread - perishables which come at a cost. The effects of the recession are hitting Camberley with an increase in reports of domestic violence as well.
Spiritual journeying group continues to meet and provide support for those with mental health issues twice a month.
Camberley Frontline Debt and Advice Service is ready to launch. Members of the team are all trained up and we pray for a successful start with good referrals. Please pray and pass on information about this great new resource.
So that is it from me! I hope that you all enjoy your summer and return ready and inspired for the Day of Action!
Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." And the second is like it: "Love your neighbour as yourself." Matthew 22:37-38
