Morality in War - what is a ‘just’ war?

Rev’d David Cooper captivated the audience of 110, at St Paul’s Speakers Corner, as he talked about morality and war. The event raised a magnificent £300 for the charity Help For Heroes, who provide practical support to service personnel, veterans, and their families.

David’s discussion centred around Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) definition of a ‘just war’. David  cited examples from the Falklands war, and Iraq during his talk at St Paul’s, Camberley on Monday 12 November.

A cross section of members of the community, including soldiers from RMA Sandhurst, attended the talk, and took part in quizzing David after the talk.

Rev’d Cooper was Padre to the Second Battalion, The Parachute Regiment at the Battle of Goose Green in the Falklands War, and he has also served with the Battalion during the troubles in Northern Ireland. It was particularly appropriate that he came to speak the day after Remembrance Sunday, in this 30th anniversary year of the Falklands conflict.
